Cirtronics Corporation
Cirtronics Corporation is a low-to-medium volume, high-mix EMS provider. In 2001, as our volume of work was steadily increasing, we started looking at AOI solutions for increased throughput and accuracy of our SMT inspection process. Two of our firm requirements were quick, easy changeover and repeatable results. We down-selected to two platforms and did side-by-side performance evaluations before selecting MIRTEC as the machine of choice.
Our first machine, a MIRTEC MV-2BTL, was originally purchased in 2002 with the intention of doing 1st piece inspections to validate machine setup. The speed and accuracy of the MIRTEC system exceeded our expectations and was quickly supporting several of our placement machines with 1st piece inspections as well as 100% post reflow inspection. AOI had proven to be a valuable process improvement tool.
The speed of the MIRTEC platform allows us to provide real time feedback to the SMT operators to eliminate errors at the source. Over the years, Cirtronics has provided feedback related to machine performance and software enhancements, working closely with MIRTEC’s technical team to see many of these enhancements come to fruition.
We now utilize a total of five MIRTEC machines. We have expanded the scope of utilization to included AOI inspection for SMT and Through-Hole components (presence, absence, polarity, part value, and solder bridging) as well as select secondary hand assembled components. The addition of AOI inspection has improved our overall quality output, has streamlined the inspection process and increased throughput. The support we have received from MIRTEC has been responsive, professional and overall – fantastic! The MIRTEC AOI solution is one of best investments we have made and we will continue to look to MIRTEC for our future AOI needs.
